John L. Mullen, 68, of Springfield, passed away on September 25, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center.

John was born on January 28, 1948 in Jacksonville the son of Everett T. and Jane Kathryn Draser Mullen.  He married Carol Correll on November 13, 1971 in Ashland.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Vietnam.  He worked for the Secretary of State as a Janitor for 24 years.  He was a member of Richland Baptist church and enjoyed fishing and watching car racing and drag racing.

He was preceded in death by parents.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Mullen of Springfield; one son, Sean Hart of Springfield; three brothers, Glenn “Sonny” (Pauline) Mullen of Virginia, David (Pam) Mullen of Colorado Springs, CO and Mike (Judy) Mullen of Beardstown; three grandchildren, Emily, Paul and Jared; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Keith Masten officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery.
