John Webbake Obituary

John W. Webbake, 74, of Sherman, IL passed away on Friday April 16, 2021 at The Christian Village in Lincoln.

John was born in Springfield on September 26, 1946 the son of Alvin and Mae (Flowers) Webbake.

After graduation John began his life long career as a Tradesman in furniture repair while working with his neighbor Mr. Ginter.

From there he worked at Riefs Furniture Co., C.A. Dawsons and retired from Jensens in Taylorville in 2012.  

John was an avid bowler and a NASCAR fan. He was a member of the VANATICS; enjoyed horse racing at Arlington and watching Golden State Warriors basketball. He owned 3 Golden Retrievers and when they died he settled down with a “little white dog”, Gio, until this dog passed over the “rainbow bridge” in 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents. In 1976, John married Susan Conant and she died in 2011.

 John is survived by Mary Ann Koehl Webbake who he married May 3, 2014 after having been introduced by the “little white dog” in 2013. Also surviving are Kathy Brown, Cochise, AZ; Reed Brown, Chattanooga, TN; Emily Brown, Major USAF (Trevor Johnson, Major USAF), Del Rio, TX; Jim (Ann Marie) Koehl, Cornland, IL; Lilly and Sam Koehl, Mt Pulaski, IL; Patty (Ed) Sklenka, Springfield, IL   

Cremation services are being accorded.

A 1 hour visitation will be held on Saturday April 24, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Church, 1345 N 6th St, Springfield, IL 62702 starting at 9:00am, a funeral mass will follow at 10:00am with Father. Manuel P. Cuizon officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers; Masses offered in John’s name would be appreciated

Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Protection League and St. Joseph’s Church.
