Evelyn L. (Evers) Ramsey

Evelyn L. (Evers) Ramsey, 95, of Rochester, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her family.

 Evelyn was born on May 26, 1928, in Newmansville, Illinoisl the daughter of Fred G. Evers and Edith (Watkins) Evers. She married Raymond Ramsey of Rochester, Illinois on November 18, 1950 at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Petersburg, Illinois. Evelyn graduated from Tallula High School and attended Brown’s Business College of Springfield, Illinois. She was a homemaker and the bookkeeper for Ray Ramsey Trucking from 1950-1994, and a partner in Ramsey Grain from 1964 to 2004. Evelyn was a member of Moreland Rebecka’s Lodge of Rochester from 1957 to present and served as its Treasurer and Noble Grand. She was a several year member of the Sangamon County Home Extension and Sangamon County Women’s Club.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Edith Evers and her husband, Raymond Ramsey.

She is survived by her sons David (Karen Ramsey and Gary (Shari Kueker) Ramsey of Rochester. A brother, Richard (Doris) Evers of Sycamore, Illinois; granddaughters Megan Ramsey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Lynnette (Ryan) Robertson of Clinton, Illinois; grandsons Nick (Christa) Ramsey of Springfield and Alex (Brittany Burrus) Ramsey of Austin, Texas; great grandsons Lucas and Tyson Ramsey of Springfield and 17 beloved nieces and nephews.

Evelyn believed in everyone’s better angels. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 from 4:30-7:30PM at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, September 12, at the funeral home with Father Charles Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Rochester Historical Society or to the American Lung Association.
