Nickolaus Austin Bermel, 38, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his residence.
Nickolaus was born on April 6, 1980 in Springfield.
He married Jamie Bermel and they had three children, Ciara, Chloe and Nickolaus Jr. He went on to marry Mikalenna Wade Bermel on January 19, 2010 in Killeen, TX and they had two children, Leslie James who had preceded him in death and Sydnee Ann. He is also survived by his fiancé, Lacy J. Mitchell of Springfield; parents, Paul H. and Lisa G. Bermel Ballard of Springfield; grandparents, Bill and Linda Bermel of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding him in death are his brother, Cody Harrison Ballard; grandparents, Maurice and Pauline Ballard Sr.; uncle, Maurice Ballard Jr.; and aunt, Jean Nerone.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Iraq War. He had also worked for Bunn and then went on to work for Glasscock Construction. He was of the Catholic faith and was baptized at St. Cabrini Catholic Church. He loved jet skiing and boating and all animals of all kinds.
Visitation will be from 3-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the funeral home with Fr. James Isaacson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where there will be military honors.
