John Spindel, 89, of Edinburg, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Life's Journey in Taylorville.
John was born on September 20, 1930, the son of John and Eleanor (Greenwalt) Spindel. He married Esther Huegel on February 2, 1957 and she survives.
John is a Korean War Veteran and was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping, gardening, riding his bike, trains, cave exploring and traveling to Colorado and Texas for vacation. John and Esther were married for 63 years and enjoyed going to gospel concerts at The Barn. They didn't have a lot but they made a lot with what they had, and had a sign in their camper that said "May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live".
John is preceded in death by his parents, and brother in law John Lawton.
He is survived by his wife, Esther; son, Bill (Pamela) Spindel; daughters, Laurie (Brad) Ingram, and Cindy (Paul) Norris; sister Medanell Lawton, grandchildren Ivy (Adam) Havrilka, Ashley (Michael) Cantrall, Betsy (Fiancé Austin Burris), Jill (Charlie) Wilson, and Sarah (Garrett) Brockelsby; great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Archer Wilson, and Evelyn Cantrall.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 9am until the time of the Memorial Service at 10am with Reverend Ken Gennicks officiating at Edinburg United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Edinburg Cemetery.
