Robert D. Owen, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Capitol Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Robert was born in Springfield on August 9, 1931 to James and Mary (Jenkins) Owen.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Richard William Owen.

Bob graduated from Lanphier High School.  He earned both Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He was a United States Army Veteran.

Bob was employed as a civil engineer by Sargent and Lundy in Chicago, Hanson Engineers in Springfield and Benton and Associates in Jacksonville.

He was a lifetime member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and had been a member of Mensa.  Bob liked to travel and had visited numerous countries.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and The Fighting Illini.

Bob is survived by his brother, James (Clare) Owen of Cherokee Village, AR; two sisters, Mary Owen of Memphis, TN and Sharon (Richard) Rohrig of Springfield.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
