Norma Rae Reed, 89 of Edinburg, IL, passed away in her home on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. She was born on September 30, 1928 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Leslie Glen Hargis and Marjorie Kurfiss Hargis.

On July 4, 1948, Norma was joined in matrimony with Edwin Paul Reed who would remain her husband for nearly 70 years until her death. They resided in rural Edinburg. Norma taught school at Walnut Hill for two years in 1947 and 1948 and then took time off to start her family.

In 1961, Norma resumed her working career, taking a job with the University of Illinois at Chicago, Division of Specialized Care for Children. She would continue employment at the U of I over the ensuing 39 years. In 2000, Norma retired from active employment to devote time to her family. She will always be remembered for her countless acts of kindness, love, and generosity and will be missed by the Edinburg community.

Norma is survived by her loving husband Paul; three children, Michael Steven Reed (wife Mary Beth) of Marquette, MI, Gregory Curtis Reed (wife Susan) of Champaign, IL, Patricia Lynn Greene (husband Terry) of Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, Kara Elizabeth Mackowiak (husband Brent), Michael Kelly Reed (wife Lauren), Patrick Reed Greene (wife Mary Carol), Andrew Braden Greene (wife Sonnet), Douglas Paul Greene, Geoffrey Edward Norman Greene (wife Carmen); eight great-grandchildren, Carson Mackowiak, Asher Mackowiak, Emerson Mackowiak, Camden Reed, Lake Reed, Nash Reed, Braylen Greene, and Memphis Greene.

Visitation will take place 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Edinburg.  Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the funeral home with Ron Spears officiating.
