Melvin L. "Crevy" Creviston

Melvin L. “Crevy” Creviston, 70, of Rochester, passed away on December 4, 2016 at his residence.

Mel was born on March 24, 1946 to Page and Anna Rose Smith Creviston and was later raised by his mother and stepfather, Jesse Rhodes. He married Patricia Estes on November 19, 1991.

Mel was a graduate of Rochester High School class of 1966.  He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Vietnam from 1966-1968 and was awarded two purple hearts.  Upon his return from Vietnam Mel established a successful concrete construction business from which he retired in 2008.  His work moto was “I JUMP INTO MY WORK WITH BOTH FEET”.  With his discovery and contribution of a historical log house in Rochester Mel was instrumental in the establishment of the Rochester Historical Preservation Society. Mel was a member of the Rochester VFW Post 11463 and the Rochester Christian Church. Mel enjoyed being outdoors with hobbies including golf, hogging, volleyball, baseball and was a championship horseshoe pitcher.  Above all Mel enjoyed spending time with lifelong friends, classmates, veteran buddies and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Russell Creviston, CSM Donald Creviston ILARNG (Ret.), and John Creviston; and one sister, Joyce Breeding.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Creviston; two sons, SGM Russell (Tamara) Creviston and Eric (Stephanie) Schroeder; five brothers, SGM James (Pat) Creviston Sr. ILARNG (Ret.), Herschel (Ladonna) Creviston, David (Karen) Creviston, Steve (Chris) Rhodes and Jeff (Rhonda) Rhodes; two sisters, Delores Creviston and Susan (Jim) Cousin; six grandchildren, Anna Rose, Joshua, and Charlotte Creviston, Ingrid Anne, and Ehren Schroeder, and Destin Sanders; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend Brad Ferris officiating, Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
