Dorothea E. Buie, 90, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothea was born on July 16, 1927 in Springfield the eldest of seven children of John and Augusta Weissberg.  She married Ross Buie on October 18, 1952.

She was a 1945 graduate of Lanphier High School and had attended Illinois Business College.  She was an avid flower gardener, a long time treasure of Elks Ladies Lodge #158 and along with her husband, Ross, a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers. Dorothea attended Immanuel Lutheran Church. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dani Brackett; and two sisters, Nancy Davis and Rosemary Stoppelwerth.

She is survived by husband, Ross Buie; daughter, Regina (Matt) Heissinger of Rochester; son, Ross Buie II of Tallula; siblings, Evelyn Roberts of Ocklawaha, FL, Caroline Londrigan of Petersburg, John (Lois) Weissberg of Rochester and Karl (Susie) Weissberg of Springfield; five grandchildren, Brett (Sandi) Ryan of Morris, Taylor and Jesse Heissinger both of Rochester, Ross Buie III of Petersburg, and Cameran Buie, serving with the U.S. Navy; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the funeral home with her nephew, Reverend Peter Wegner officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery Mausoleum.
