Frank Thompson Obituary

Frank Edward Thompson, 88, of Springfield, formerly of Buffalo, IL, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Villas East in Sherman, IL.

He was born June 23, 1929 in Buffalo, the son of Charles W. and Laura Simmons Thompson.  He married Mary L. Holmes of Mt. Pulaski on September 6, 1948 and she preceded him in death on March 1, 1999. He married Jane Stults of Michigan City, IN on June 23, 2000, and she survives. 

He is also survived by sons, Michael (Debbi) Thompson of Buffalo, Neil (Susan, deceased and Michael, partner) Thompson of Springfield, and daughter, Beverly (Rick) Buck of Dawson; stepchildren, Diane McCoy, Debbie Kane, Denise (Dean) Capps, Jerry Clark, and John Clark of Springfield, and Dana (Jim) Caples of Riverton; grandchildren Sarah (Jason) Sass, Kimberly Thompson, Michael Thompson, Jr., and Melissa Thompson; step grandchildren, Hollie Scantlebury, Jackie McCoy, Randy McCoy, Anna McCoy, Cody Caples, Allison Clark, Grace Clark, Kaitlyn Clark, and Mitchel Clark; multiple great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leora (Jim, deceased) Harry and Leona (Larry) Garrison; and two sisters-in-law, Anna (Howard, deceased) Thompson and Dorothy (Richard) Palmer.

Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a lifelong farmer in Buffalo, a past member of Buffalo United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Carlock Lodge #904, and Ansar Shrine. He was also a member of Sangamon County Farm Bureau.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed many activities, including travel, horseback riding, Country Western music, and card playing, especially with the younger generations of the family.     

Visitation will be held for friends and family on Tuesday, February 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg with Masonic Rite Service following at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Grace Community Fellowship in Buffalo on Wednesday, February 7, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Larry Hanson officiating.

Memorials may be made in honor of Frank to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
